Physician's Health Forum

A Physician's Health Forum entitled "What every man should know: Protecting your prostate & prostate cancer" will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Service Building Classroom of North Country Regional Hospital.  The forum will be hosted by prostate cancer survivor Dr. James Brown and Dr. Frank Labadie, Urologist at MeritCare Clinic.  For more information, call 751-5430.

 

18th Annual Sportsmen's Banquet

The Ruffed Grouse Society will be holding it's 18th Annual Sportsmen's Banquet on Thursday, April 12 with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Inn.  Tickets are $35 per person or $55 for individual and spouse ticket (each price includes one RGS Membership).  Raffle tickets are also available for $2 each, 6 for $10, or 15 for $20.  For more information, call Clyde Horlick at 751-9130

 

Tax Assistance Program

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is hosting income tax preparation help sessions on April 12.  The sessions will be held at BSU for students and low income families.  For more information call the VITA advisor at 755-3716.

 

Valuing Diversity Workshop

Applications are now being accepted for the Northwest Minnesota Foundation's Valuing Diversity Workshop being held on April 17-18.  The workshop will be held at the Hoot Owl Resort in Waubun.  For more information call Rebecca at 759-2057 or 1-800-659-7859.

 

5th Annual Spring Shoot

The Northstar Sportsmens Club,presents the 5th Annual Spring Shoot,  April 21-22. Hours are Saturday 8a.m.-4p.m., Sunday 8a.m.-3p.m. Cost $12.00 per shooter, $3.00 cub, $25.00 family and $6.00 reshoot, same bow. Directions: The Northstar Sportsmens Club is located 5 miles north of Walker on Hwy 371 Left on County Road 62 then follow the signs. Leadership Development Workshop

A Leadership Development Workshop will be held April 23-27.  Applications are now available through the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.  For more information, call Jennifer at 759-2057.  Applications must be received by March 9.

 

End of Life Care Conference

There will be a seminar for nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and hospice volunteers on April 23 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Northern Inn.  The seminar is caled "A Holistic Approach to the End of Life Care".  For more information, call Jessica at 759-5676.  Registration deadline is April 16.

 

Friend of the Arts Award Nominations

Nomination forms are now ready for the 2001 Friend of the Arts Award. Each year a committee of past recipients gathers to review nominations of a person or couple that has had long term commitment to the arts in Bemidji. Call or stop by the Bemidji Community Art Center to pick up a form. The person(s) chosen for this award will be the 13th recipient and will be honored at a gala celebration at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts on Friday, April 27th from 5:30 to 7:30p.m.. Food, music and poetry will be shared. Tickets for the event will be $7 or $8 at the door. Reserve tickets by calling HSMA at 444-5606 or BCAC at 444-7570. 

 

Baby Massage

This caring touch is not only fun and relaxing for parents and baby, but also promotes bonding and builds positive family interaction.  The class will be held on Saturday, April 28 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the Board Room of North Country Regional Hospital.  Cost is $10 per family, with pre-payment required.  To register, cal the Education Department at 759-5578.  The class is best for baby under 8 months of age, but toddlers up to 2 years of age are welcome.

 

Bemidji Area Friends of NRA Banquet

The annual Bemidji Area Friends of NRA Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 3rd. It starts at 5:00 p.m. and will be held at the Bemidji Eagles Club. The proceeds support youth education, training, range development, and conservation efforts in our community

 

Applications for the 34th annual Art in the Park

Applications for the 34th annual Art in the Park to be held July 21 and 22, are available. Chosen by the Minnesota State Arts Board as one of Minnesota's top festival sites, Art in the Park is being held concurrently with 'The First City Celebration of the Arts' at Library Park and Paul Bunyan Park, downtown Bemidji. The exhibitor fee is $70 for members or $75 for non-members for a 10'x10' booth plus a non-refundable $5 processing fee. The deadline for applications is April 6, 2001. 2001 Beltrami County Fair

The 2001 Beltrami County Fair will be held July 25-29 at the Fairgrounds.  There are several large exhibits area available for this year.  If you are looking for space, contact Joe at 759-1298 for more information.

 

Tom Gartner Memorial Scholarship

Bemidji High School has established a fund in memorium of Industrial Technology teacher Tom Gartner and his wife who were killed in a car accident last fall.  The Independent School District #31 would like to develop the Tom Gartner Memorial Scholarship Fund for students planning on a career in industrial technology.  For more information, please call David at 444-1600 ext. 3365.

Gift Shop seeking Artists work

The Bemidji Community Soup Kitchen serves a meal every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at 902 Beltrami Ave. NW.  Everyone is welcome.

Creative Words Coffeehouse

All writers, poets, lyricists, and others who appreciate the written word are invited to the Creative Words Coffeehouse, every 3rd Friday of the month at 7:30pm, at the Uptown Caffe, 523 Minnesota Avenue, downtown Bemidji.  Call 444-JAVA for more information. The Creative Words Coffeehouse is a monthly, third-Friday program of Headwaters School of Music and the Arts

 

Big Fork Support Group

Mental Health Consumers are forming a non-profit Support Group a the Big Fork Hospital. They will be meeting every Friday at 6pm in the conference room. If you have any questions or for more info. Contact Gayle or Ken at 218-832-3084.

 

Senior Drug Program

Are prescription drugs taking a bite out of your budget?  If you are at least 65, the Senior Drug Program might be able to help you.  If you qualify for the program you will only pay $35 a month for drugs and the program picks up the rest of the costs.  In addition, there are other programs that help pay for Medicare Related expenses.  If you want to learn more, call the Senior LinkAge Line at 1-800-333-2433.  The Senior LinkAge Line is a program of the Headwaters Regional Development Commission of Bemidji and is generally open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m
